Suno and Udio both write a finished song in about a minute. Only Suno lets you keep the file. Udio switched off downloads after its Universal deal and has not switched them back on.

Pick Suno if you intend the track to leave the platform it was made on, because Suno is the only one of the two that still hands you an audio file.
Pick Udio if you are writing for the pleasure of writing, prefer its vocal texture, and genuinely do not care that the song will live and die inside Udio.
Pick neither if the music has to be cleared for a client, a film or a monetised channel, because both platforms rewrote their download and rights terms in the past twelve months under label pressure, and a licensed stock library comes with an indemnity that neither of these offers.

There is no official way to download from Udio. It switched off audio, video and stem downloads on 29 October 2025, the day it settled with Universal, reopened them for 48 hours in early November, and its help centre still lists them as disabled. Udio says a licensed platform is coming and gives no date.
The third-party downloaders do not fix the real problem. Udio's terms, revised 12 November 2025, say you may not download copies of any output or post it on YouTube, Spotify, TikTok or similar platforms, only share links. They also forbid scrapers and getting around its content protections, and say Udio owns the output. A ripped file is a file you have no right to use.
Udio Pro is $30 a month. Suno Pro is $10. The fair match for Suno Pro is Udio Standard, also $10, and for Udio Pro it is Suno Premier at $30. Both companies take 20% off for annual billing.
At $10, Suno gives you 2,500 credits, about 500 songs, plus 20 downloads with commercial rights. Udio Standard gives you 2,400 credits, lifts the three-a-day cap on two-minute songs and adds editing and audio uploads. At $30, Suno Premier has 10,000 credits, 60 downloads and Suno Studio, and Udio Pro has 6,000 credits and ten songs at once. Paying Udio more buys more generations. It never buys a file.
Both are licensed by some labels and still sued by others. Udio settled with Universal and Warner and has licensing deals with Merlin, Kobalt, Believe and the NMPA. Sony did not settle and filed a second suit against Udio in July 2026.
Suno settled with Warner in November 2025 and on 9 September 2026 launched v6, built with Warner, BMG and Believe, retiring its older models. Nine days later Universal and Sony filed a second suit over 60,202 recordings, arguing v6 is tainted too, while the 2024 case is still in discovery. For you this matters for one reason: the label deals are why Suno meters downloads and Udio removed them.
Not if the song has to leave the app. Udio gives you no file and no commercial use on any plan, while Suno gives 20 downloads a month with commercial rights from $10. On sound alone, run the same prompt through both free tiers, since neither costs anything to test.
Yes. The free plan gives 10 credits a day, capped at 100 a month, with up to three full-length songs a day and no card. The free trial of Standard unlocks its features but keeps those free credit limits. No plan, free or paid, lets you download.
Free to make songs, with 50 credits a day, about 10 songs. The free plan has no commercial rights, and accounts opened since 3 September 2026 are promised no downloads. The full answer →
Yes, since 3 September 2026. Pro gets 20 song downloads a month and Premier 60, unused ones do not roll over, and the cap covers songs made before it started. You can buy more once you hit it, and work inside Suno Studio is not capped.
