Is Meta AI free?

YES · a real free plan

Yes, Meta AI is free for everyday use with a Meta account, on meta.ai, in its own app and inside WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and Facebook. Since September 2026 a paid plan, Meta One, buys more image and video generation. The free daily limit is not published, and your chats help pick the ads you see.

Stay on the free plan if you ask questions and make the odd image, because Meta says the free assistant is not going away and chat needs no card.

Pay for Meta One if you keep hitting the daily limit on images and videos, which is the only thing the $7.99 plan changes about Meta AI.

Skip it if you do not want what you tell a chatbot to shape the ads you see on Instagram and Facebook, or to be read by a human reviewer.

what the free plan includes

what it leaves out

the catchYou pay in attention. What you ask Meta AI helps decide which ads and posts Meta shows you, some conversations can be reviewed by people, and deleting a chat may not delete Meta's copy, by its own terms. The free limit on images and video has no published number, so it can tighten at any time.

The Meta AI subscription is called Meta One

There is one now. Meta launched Meta One on September 15, 2026, and two of its plans touch Meta AI: Core and Premium. Both are bundles. You also get the paid extras for Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook, whether you want them or not.

Meta's own answer to "Is Meta AI still free?" is "Yes. Meta AI is free for everyone." The paid allowance refreshes each billing cycle, unused usage does not roll over, and it is shared across every profile in your Accounts Center. Prices vary by country, and one help page still calls Meta One a limited test.

Meta AI video generator and images: free, up to a daily limit

Both are free to start. Meta says it has "started testing usage limits" on its more compute-intensive features, and names image and video generation as what the paid plans expand.

When you reach the free daily limit, the help page gives two options: upgrade, or "wait and try again later when your free limit refreshes". No Meta page we read says how many images or videos that is, so any number you see quoted elsewhere is someone's own test.

Is Meta AI safe with what you tell it?

It is not private by default. Since December 16, 2025, Meta uses your text and voice conversations with its AI to personalize the content and ads you see, in most regions. It says it leaves out topics such as health, religion, politics and sexual orientation.

Meta's AI terms add that it may review your conversations, "automated or manual (human)", and warn: "Do not share information that you don't want the AIs to use and retain."

Meta AI: quick answers

How do you turn off Meta AI?

We found no Meta help page that documents a switch to remove it from WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger or Facebook. What Meta does document: the assistant is optional, you can delete your chats with it, and Incognito chats exist.

Can Meta AI read my WhatsApp messages?

Only the ones you send it. WhatsApp's help centre says Meta can read messages that mention @Meta AI or that someone chooses to share with it, and that your other personal chats stay end-to-end encrypted.

Can you opt out of Meta AI training?

Meta's privacy page describes a right to object to your AI chats and public posts being used to train its models, filed from your account, and says the forms depend on your region. We could not confirm on a Meta page that US accounts get one.
