Speechify is a real app from a real company, but its trial charges your card after three days and the refund rules make that charge hard to undo. The BBB rates it F.
Use it if you stay on the free plan, or pay for a year on speechify.com knowing you have 7 days and 500 HD words to change your mind.
Be careful if you start the free trial, which bills the card you entered after three days unless you cancel first.
Skip it if you need confidential work documents read aloud, since the terms ask you not to upload anything confidential or personal.

Most people who ask do not qualify. Speechify refunds a yearly plan only if you write within 7 days and have used no more than 500 HD words. Read literally, the policy counts those days from the date you subscribed, trial included, so a three-day trial leaves about four days after the charge. Charges made in error are the other route. Prices are on the Is Speechify free page.
Speechify's contact page lists no phone number, only a form and help.speechify.com. The refund policy names help@speechify.com. Write from the email on the account with the date, the amount and how you paid. Keep the reply, and the confirmation email the terms promise after every order, before you dispute a charge with your bank.
The safety questions come from cloning, not reading aloud. In March 2025 Consumer Reports found Speechify asked only for a checkbox saying you had the right to the voice. In July 2026 the Consumer Federation of America and UCLA Law students alleged it had virtually no safeguards against impersonation. That is a request to regulators, not a finding. Speechify's developer API now makes the speaker read a phrase aloud and checks the voice matches.
Files you save sync to Speechify's servers in the United States. The privacy policy says staff do not view your content as a rule, with exceptions including support and improving its algorithms. The terms ask you not to upload anything you consider confidential. Fine for articles and textbooks, not for a client's contract.
No. It delivers the reader it sells. The complaints on record are about being charged, not about a product that does not exist.
The app stores are positive: 4.7 from more than 526,000 ratings on the App Store, 4.0 from 283,000 reviews on Google Play. The BBB profile is the opposite: an F and 83 complaints in three years.
