Is Rocket Money free?

KINDA · free, with a catch

Rocket Money has a free plan with no time limit, but it only shows you your subscriptions, and having them cancelled for you takes Premium. Premium is $7 to $14 a month, you pick the number. Bill negotiation costs 35 to 60% of first-year savings today and moves to the $15 plan on November 2, 2026.

Stay on the free plan if you want one list of your subscriptions and spending, and you will cancel things yourself.

Pay for Premium if you would use what free leaves out every month: real-time sync, the desktop site, a shared account, or the team cancelling for you.

Skip it if you do not want to link your bank accounts to an app, because nothing in Rocket Money works without that, on any plan.

what it leaves out

the catchThe free plan finds the subscription and stops there. Cancelling and negotiating, the two things Rocket Money is known for, both cost money, and from November 2, 2026 negotiation means $15 a month, $180 a year, whether or not a bill ever comes down.

Does Rocket Money cost money?

Not unless you opt in. The app is free to download and the free tier has no end date. Rocket Money's help centre lists two things it charges for: a Premium membership and the bill negotiation fee. A statement line reading "Rocket Money Smart Savings" is a transfer to your own savings goal, not a charge. The usual surprise is the trial, which rolls into a paid membership.

Rocket Money free vs Premium: what the free version leaves out

Free shows you the problem. Premium acts on it. On free you see every subscription Rocket Money finds, but its pricing page says free users "must cancel them on their own". Cancellation by its team is Premium, and usually takes 2 to 10 days.

Free also runs without real-time sync, on your phone only. If you budget on a laptop, or with a partner, you need Premium.

Rocket Money bill negotiation is not free, and it changes on November 2

Today anyone can request a negotiation, free plan included, and you pay only if it works: 35 to 60% of the first year's savings, at a percentage you choose.

The terms of service effective October 2, 2026 end that. From November 2, 2026 negotiation is "exclusively a Premium+ feature", $15 a month, with no fee on negotiations started after that date. Rocket Money's own pricing article still says it is available to everyone. The terms are what binds you.

Is Rocket Money safe to link to your bank?

Here is what Rocket Money states, which is not an audit by us. Accounts are linked through Plaid, or Akoya for Fidelity. Your bank password goes to that provider and your bank, and Rocket Money says it never sees or stores it. It gets a token that lets it read transactions.

It also states that data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest (256-bit AES), that outside auditors review its security, and that it takes no payment for your personal or financial data.

Rocket Money: quick answers

How does the Rocket Money free trial work?

It is seven days of Premium. The free plan needs no trial. You choose a monthly price and a payment method to start, and the membership continues at that price after the week. To stop it, move the price slider to $0 under Settings, Membership.

How much does Rocket Money cost if you upgrade?

Premium is whatever you choose in a range Rocket Money gives as typically $7 to $14 a month, same features at every price. Premium+ is a flat $15. Prices can vary across platforms, so check the number in your own app.

Is Rocket Money worth it?

The free plan costs nothing to test, so the question is Premium: $84 to $168 a year at $7 to $14 a month. That one has its own page.
